Plugs and sockets have been a part of our lives since a very long time. We use them in our everyday lives and for industrial use. It is used everywhere. A plug and a socket have two different uses and work differently as well. A socket is a device which is generally intended on to a wall, it can also be called a ‘wall socket’. An electric bulb or a plug is connected to a socket to supply electricity, whereas a plug is a fixed part that is attached to the end of an appliance or a connector and is plugged in to a socket.
These plugs and sockets come color coded. They are usually color coded according to various levels of voltage it can handle. Industrial plug and socket suppliers have two major categories that has to meet their standard requirements. Extra-Low Voltage and Low Voltage. In Extra-Low Voltage, it handles voltage up to 50 V and has a keyway with a matching key which is always situated at 6 o’clock on the socket. In Low Voltage, it handles voltage between 50 V – 690 V, which also has a keyway and a matching key situated at 6 o’clock.
They also come in two protection degrees, which is very important, IP44 and IP67. The use of these plugs and sockets will help you understand this. IP44 is used in situations regarding water and so they are protected with a spring lid and IP67 is used for protection against the effects of immersion and so it is fixed with a locking ring. Now that we have a basic idea, there are many ways that it can be used, such as in industries or in everyday use. Here are a few:
For IP44, it is used for mobile and portable equipments and appliances that are used or stored at the work place. For IP67, it is used for outdoor installation for pumping, ventilation and drying equipments.
For IP44, it is used indoors where connections are not exposed to the risk of immersion or chemicals. For IP67, it is used where the connections are exposed to chemicals and immersion.
Construction Sites and Shipyards
For IP44, used in construction sites where it is sheltered against weathering, but it can be exposed to water. For IP67, used in outdoor construction sites where the connections can be left on damp ground, exposed to dust and weathering.
TV, Film Studios, Sports Complexes and other Public Entertainment Places
For IP44, it is used in sheltered places which are protected against the weather but can be exposed to water. For IP67, it is used for outdoor connections which are exposed to rain, dust, mud, snow and other critical conditions.
For IP44, it is used in sheltered locations where equipments are used for storage and maintenance. For IP67, it is used in location where washing by hosing down and where connections are subjected to heavy duty.
For IP44, used in sheltered warehouses, maintenance workshops, assembling and moulding areas. For IP67, used where the connections are exposed to dust, coolants such as in rolling mills, blast furnaces, etc.
For IP44, used in locations without high humidity where it’s used for moulding, maintenance and storage. For IP67, used in locations subjected to cleaning by chemical solvents and where heavy loads require high safety for connections.
Installation for IT Centres
For IP44, it is used for electric connections executed above floor level. For IP67, used for electric connections under raised floors with the risk of immersion.
For IP44, it is used in sheltered locations such as docks, repair shops, offices, etc. For IP67, it is used in locations such as docks, piers, etc. where there are high risks of waves and partial flooding.
For IP44, it is used in indoor locations, warehouses and repair shops. For IP67, it is used outdoors for mobile or portable appliances and aircrafts.

For IP44, it is used for indoor places such as repair shops. For IP67, it can be used in all locations with the risk of flooding and outdoor use with pumps and ventilation systems.
